GenPI launches three markets in Lombok, Palembang and Padang

The market is one of the offline activities by the GenPI community who mainly promotes Indonesia tourism on social media.

T

he Karetan Market concept initiated by Indonesian Charms Generation (GenPI) Central Java has been implemented in three different cities namely Pancingan Market in Lombok by GenPI NTB, Baba Boentjit Market in Musi River, Palembang by GenPI South Sumatra and Siti Nurbaya Market in Padang.

The market is one of the offline activities by the GenPI community who mainly promotes Indonesia tourism on social media.

The first market, Pancingan Market is located in Green Tourism Village, Central Lombok and It was established on Nov. 26.

“It’s only 30 minutes away from the central of Mataram city and 40 minutes from Lombok International Airport,” said GenPI NTB coordinator Jhe Ipul.

The location has the depth of eight to 17 meters it has a park and a pool.

There are 30 traditional dishes made by the women of Family Welfare Movement (PKK) available here and visitors can also do activities such as cycling and fishing. 

In Palembang, the opening of Baba Boent Tjit Market was held on Nov. 20. This market wants to invite visitors to explore the house of Baba Oeng Boent Tjit, one of the tourist objects in Palembang.

Baba Oeng Boent Tjit was a famous businessman back then, who owns a house designed with a combination of old-school Chinese and Palembang styles. “This house is around 300 years old,” said GenPI South Sumatra coordinator Robby Sunata.

“We provide boats from the dock of Kuto Besak Castle, Kuto Market and Ki Gede Ing Suro area to the location,” he added.

It takes around five to 10 minutes to go to the house with a vehicle.

The market itself offers visitors with Palembang traditional snacks and several activities such as photo hunting competition, blog writing competition, dance performance, drama performance of Antu Banyu legend, cooking demo by chef Kukuh and workshop on handicraft products made of daun nipah.
