ings Air, a subsidiary of Indonesia's largest private airline, the Lion Air Group, will open a new flight on Jan. 24 connecting Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and Kuching, Malaysia.

Lukman Nurjaman, Pontianak district manager at the Lion Air Group, said on Tuesday that Wings Air had added the new route to its Pontianak fleet, which would fly the route twice a day.

"This would be the first international Wings Air flight from Pontianak," Lukman said as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the Pontianak-Kuching Wings Air flight could be an alternative to other available flights between the two cities.

"There is good potential. The people of Pontianak like to spend the weekends out of town and even abroad. It is hoped that Wings Air could help and simplify the trip so people from Pontianak can travel to Kuching at an economical price. We are starting the price from around Rp 200,000 [US$14]," said Lukman.

Flights will depart at 9:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Pontianak; from Kuching International Airport, flights will depart at 7 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. local time.

The international flight is the fourth route that Wings Air serves from Pontianak, in addition to domestic flights to Ketapang, Sintang and Putussibau.

"We hope that this route will be able to stimulate economic growth for each targeted region," Lukman said. (liz/kes)
