ings Air, a subsidiary of Indonesia’s largest private airline, the Lion group, will soon open flights to Kerinci regency in Jambi.
The airline plans to open at least six routes serving Kerinci, Kerinci regent Adirozal said, adding that the possible flights would service Kerinci to Bungo regency in Jambi, Curup in Bengkulu, Padang in West Sumatra, Jambi city, Pekanbaru in Riau and Batam in Riau Islands.
The routes were mostly requested by local people, he said, adding that there were also requests to connect Kerinci to Jakarta, which could not be realized yet.
“Prioritizing the six routes is better because there are many Kerinci natives living in Malaysia and they usually go through Padang or Batam before heading home to Kerinci,” he said on Thursday.
He also said the airline had expressed its commitment to the regency to start the flights soon.
“We hope Wings Air can start operations before Idul Fitri this year,” Adirozal added.
Meanwhile, Depati Parbo Airport’s engineering and operations unit head Tri Pono said the airport had been in contact with Wings Air in relation to the preparations for the flights to Kerinci. (rin)
