Said to be the first of its kind in Indonesia, the insurance product was created to tap into the huge market of people joining the mudik (Idul Fitri exodus) tradition. According to Traveloka's own survey, seven out of 10 people are planning to go to their hometown this year. 

Meanwhile, a survey released by Litbang Kompas last year estimated that at least 8 million people in Greater Jakarta went on the annual exodus. According to a press release, up to 68.7 percent of the survey's respondents who usually traveled for two to seven days were worried of the prospect of leaving behind their house and precious belongings, despite the safety of their neighborhood.

"Traveloka is committed to putting our users' needs first, including during this holy month of Ramadan and the Lebaran holidays, when families have to leave their home for an extended period of time to visit their loved ones,” Traveloka head of global partnership Yady Guitana said in a statement.

“We want to offer not only convenience during their trip but also a sense of security when they are traveling with this product.”

The Lebaran home protection insurance is said to provide coverage for the homeowner's property in the case of fire or damages due to burglary with a limit of up to Rp 20 million (US$1,383) and a payment option of Rp 15,000 per person, or Rp 50 million for Rp 35,000 per person for 30 days, starting from the owner's departure date.

The product can be purchased after users book their plane tickets through the Traveloka app. (kes)
