ndustrial machine vision maker Cognex Corporation opened its new Indonesian representative office on Wednesday to serve as a local hub for customers in the Greater Jakarta Area as well as across Indonesia.
“The opening of this new office marks our commitment to building long-term relationships with manufacturing customers in Indonesia,” Cognex vice president of sales for Asia, Michael Zhu said in a press statement.
“We want to be right there with our customers, listening, understanding and delivering relevant solutions that make industrial transformation easier and more sustainable.”
The office is located at M Gold Tower in Bekasi, West Java, and brings the American company closer to manufacturers located at industrial centers on Java Island.
Bekasi was chosen because it is close to major industrial zones where businesses need more machine vision automation in food and beverage, automotive, electronics, logistics and pharmaceuticals manufacturers.
There are several industrial estates in Bekasi city and regency, such as the Jababeka Industrial Estate, MM2100 Industrial Town, Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) and East Jakarta Industrial Park (EJIP).
Cognex’s new office in Bekasi is equipped with a sales and support engineering team, as well as a technology demo room for hands-on training and application testing. Customers can experience Cognex solutions firsthand, receive technical consultations and participate in training programs tailored to the needs of local industries.
“With the presence of a local team, we hope to be closer to our customers, provide faster response times and help customers accelerate their transition to more automated production systems,” Cognex area sales manager for ASEAN South, Chong Siong Chuang, said in the statement.
“We see significant potential in the Indonesian market to move toward a more efficient, connected and globally competitive manufacturing landscape.”
Cognex sees Indonesia as a strategic market in Southeast Asia, due to its ongoing push for manufacturing transformation and a strong domestic economy. The Indonesian manufacturing sector currently contributes more than 16 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs over 19 million people.
Indonesia’s manufacturing activity has improved but remains in negative territory, as output and demand are weak while producers’ confidence is at a low due to concerns over United States tariffs.
According to the latest monthly report from S&P Global, the manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for Indonesia rose to 49.2 in July from a reading of 46.9 in June.
It marks the fourth consecutive month the country’s manufacturing PMI has come in below the 50-point threshold between expansion and contraction.
