ust as the COVID-19 pandemic began to wane, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease hit dairy supply chains in Indonesia, but that has not stopped Nestlé Indonesia from expanding in the country.
Nestlé Indonesia president director Ganesan Ampalavanar spoke to The Jakarta Post’s Deni Ghifari on Jan. 11 about how the company has dealt with COVID-19 and an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, as well as the company's history and plans for the future in Indonesia.
Questions: What can you tell us about Nestlé’s history and core ideals?
Answer: Nestlé is the world's biggest fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firm and the biggest food and beverage company in the world. Switzerland is the headquarters and the birthplace of Nestlé. It is a small country with a population of only 6 million people, so we have a very small home market, but that makes us a real multinational company. Ninety-eight percent of our business is outside Switzerland.
2021 was a big year for us, because it was the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of PT Nestlé Indonesia. Prior to that, we were not present as a company. Our products were present in Indonesia notwithstanding.
The purpose of Nestlé global and local is the same: to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone, for today and future generations. Hence our corporate tagline “good food, good life”.
