Bosch regional president for Asia Pacific South Vijay Ratnaparkhe spoke to The Jakarta Post’s Maudey Khalisha on Nov. 19, the day of the factory’s groundbreaking ceremony, about tapping into rising domestic demand from the automotive and other industries.
lobal technology and service provider Bosch held an event on Nov. 19 to present its new manufacturing facility at the Deltamas Industrial Estate in Cikarang, West Java, designed with an innovative modular concept.
Built on an area of 82,000 square meters with initial investment of around 25 million euros (US$30 million) the factory will expand Bosch's production activities in Indonesia, with the first phase of construction targeted for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
Vijay Ratnaparkhe, Bosch regional president for Asia Pacific South, spoke to The Jakarta Post’s Maudey Khalisha on the day of the groundbreaking ceremony for the multi-division factory about tapping into rising domestic demand for automotive components and industrial technologies.
Question: Bosch is introducing a new ‘modular factory’ concept in Indonesia. What does that model look like, and how is it different from your traditional factory setup?
Answer: This factory is unique in its conception. Typically, Bosch has built factories with a single business division in mind. This new facility, however, is what we call a 'modular factory'. It was invested in and built by our Global Real Estate division, rather than any particular product division.
The rationale behind this is the need for all of Bosch’s divisions to participate in Indonesia's growing market. To effectively do so, a degree of local value addition is required from each business that operates in the country.
This modular plan facilitates that. While the production areas for each division are independent, allowing them to configure their manufacturing possibilities as needed, the core services and utilities are common. This includes shared logistics, incoming and outgoing goods management, and overall plant administration.
