Indonesia Decides

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto arrived on Monday afternoon at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta for another meeting with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, the fourth in little over a month.

Speaking before the meeting, Prabowo said that the meeting was to "file a report" to the President on some of defense issues.

"There are some issues. Defense [is one of them]," Prabowo told reporters before the meeting.

The last time Prabowo held a meeting with President Jokowi was on June 26,when the two politicians claimed that they had discussed defense issues.

The frequent meetings between President Jokowi and Prabowo, the Gerindra Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, has fueled speculation that the President is not ready to go all-out in backing the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle’s (PDI-P) presidential candidate Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo just yet.

Despite being a member of the PDI-P and having attended numerous rallies for Ganjar, Jokowi, who has openly admitted that he is intervening in the hunt for his successor, has for the past few weeks intensified his meetings with Prabowo.

In early June, the two politicians met during Jokowi’s visit to Malaysia, and just a day later, Jokowi invited Prabowo to the State Palace.
