The Army is deploying logistics and health personnel following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Nusa Tenggara province to help residents sheltering in several evacuation centers.  

The crash took place at 6:03 am local time (1103 GMT) near rice fields in Cicalengka and left numerous train carriages overturned.

The government has closed Maumere airport in East Nusa Tenggara as activity continues at Mt. Lewotobi Laki-Laki since its initial eruption on New Year's Day, with the local administration upgrading the volcano's alert status from level II to III on Wednesday.

The dead hikers were found Monday near the crater of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, while others were found alive and carried down the mountain in arduous rescue efforts hampered by further eruptions and bad weather.

Search and rescue efforts continue for the 12 hikers still missing since Mt. Marapi erupted on Sunday, killing 11 out of 75 hikers who started climbing the volcano on Saturday.
