he Foreign Ministry laments the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) latest failure to grant full membership to Palestine at the world body following a veto from the United States.

Members of the security council voted in a meeting in New York, the US, on Thursday local time a draft resolution that recommended to the 193 members of the UN General Assembly the admission of the State of Palestine to the UN.

The US, one of the council’s permanent members and among Israel’s most significant allies, was the only country to vote against the resolution.

The United Kingdom and Switzerland opted to abstain, while the remaining 12 members, including France, Russia, China and Japan, voted yes.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, the Foreign Ministry stated that the country “deeply regrets” not adopting the resolution “due to a veto cast by one of its permanent members.”

“This veto once again betrayed the shared aspiration to build lasting peace in the Middle East,” the ministry wrote.
