Today Canada counts 36 million people from every corner of the world.
It is said that Canada was born with the stroke of a pen in agreeing the British North America Act.
Canadians did not fight for their independence, they signed for it. “The True North Strong and Free”, began to grow under the founding principle of “Peace, Order and Good Government”. These concepts, like Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) in Indonesia, have served us well.
Today Canada counts 36 million people from every corner of the world, representing all ethnicities, languages, religions, sexual orientations, shapes and sizes. This human diversity is matched by the country’s natural beauty.
The Canadian literary critic Northrop Frye has written that “Canada must now preserve its identity by having many identities”. As a modern G7 industrialized democracy, the Canadian federation of 10 provinces and 3 territories today embraces diversity through national principles of official bilingualism, multiculturalism and a concept of inclusion and tolerance entrenched in the 36-year-old Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
