uring her recent visit to West Sumatra, the Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani distributed Indonesian Smart Cards (KIP) and Family Hope Program (PKH) donations – both part of the government’s education and family welfare programs – to local residents.
On Sept. 27, the minister arrived in Alek Anak Nagari Sabu village in Tanah Datar, West Sumatra, to distribute the KIP to about 6,556 elementary and junior high school students. Puan also handed out PKH donations, worth Rp 5 million per family, to 6,484 families in the area.
The minister was accompanied by West Sumatra deputy governor Nasrul Abit, Tanah Datar regent Irdinansyah Tarmizi and Dharmasraya regent Sutan Riska Tuanku Kerajaan.
Puan advised the locals to use the donations wisely. “The monetary donations can be used to buy new uniforms, shoes, backpacks and school textbooks when your children go to high school,” she said, adding that the donations should not be used for purposes other than education and food.
She said that the public should spend money on healthy foods, such as fish.
Representatives from the local as well as central administrations, including some honorary members of the local community, were also present to witness the hand outs.
