n order to improve the regulation and supervision mechanism regarding the government’s labor-intensive village economic development program, Coordinating Human Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Puan Maharani has just organized a ministerial coordination meeting on the optimization of the labor-intensive economic development budget.
The coordination meeting was conducted on Nov. 2, attended by Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo, Deputy Finance Minister Mardiasmo, Development Finance Comptroller head Ardan Adiperdana as well as representatives from related ministries and institutions.
According to Puan, proper budget planning for the village economic development program is key to improve villagers’ welfare through the use of local produce and human resources.
She explained that currently, the government had allocated Rp 200 million for the labor-intensive economic development program. In order to use the budget wisely, she said relevant ministries needed to identify 100 villages and districts that would be turned into local hubs of labor-intensive economy.
She said the Home Ministry needed to update its village budget guidelines to ensure that the budget would be prioritized for villages that needed them the most. To refine regulation and supervision mechanism on the program, the forum also decided that a joint ministerial decree would be issued by the Home Ministry, Finance Ministry, Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Ministry and the National Development Planning Ministry on the labor-intensive economic development program.
