he National Awakening Party (PKB) will be ready to support the administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto, the party’s chairman and failed vice presidential candidate Muhaimin Iskandar said late on Thursday.
Muhaimin issued the statement shortly after leader of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, issued a similar statement backing the incoming Prabowo administration.
“I don’t think I need to answer that, it’s already obvious [that we will support Prabowo],” Muhaimin told reporters.
Muhaimin was among the first politicians visited by Prabowo shortly after the General Elections Commission (KPU) officially announced his victory in the presidential election on Wednesday night.
In the Feb. 14 presidential election, Muhaimin first angled to be nominated as vice presidential candidate for Prabowo before switching the PKB's support to opposition candidate Anies Baswedan. In return for his support, Anies tapped Muhaimin as his running mate.
The Anies-Muhaimin ticket received 26 percent of the vote in the presidential election.
Separately, deputy chairman of the PKB, Jazilul Fawaid, also confirmed that a deal had been struck for the party to support Prabowo’s administration for the next five years.
