Diversified business group Sinar Mas has mobilized its employees to raise the enthusiasm for the 18th Asian Games to fever pitch.
"Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinar Mas is one of the official partners of the grand sporting event. So, we are mobilizing the big family of Sinar Mas, across our business units to join hands and ensure the success of this national [project]," said G. Sulistiyanto, managing director of Sinar Mas, during the event Dari Sinar Mas, #UntukmuIndonesiaku (From Sinar Mas To You, My Indonesia), which was held at Sinar Mas Land Plaza on Aug. 15.
The Untukmu Indonesiaku campaign, launched in early July, includes competitions held on social media, like blogs, video and photo competitions for the employees. In their entry, participants need to highlight Asia's biggest sporting event, which will run from Aug.18 until Sept. 2 in Jakarta and Palembang. To note, Sinar Mas has around 380,000 employees.
Sinar Mas has also initiated other activities and programs related to the 2018 Asiad. This includes having its employees, including some of the directors and firefighters, participate in the Asian Games torch relay from Palembang and Serang to Jakarta.
As an official partner, APP Sinar Mas provides two of its leading products, photocopy paper (Sinar Dunia) and tissue (Paseo) for use throughout the event.
Sinar Mas is also involved in preparing some of the venues. One of these is the Jakabaring Bowling Center, a two-floor building with an area of 4,200 square meters standing on 2.8 hectares of land.
The building, construction of which cost Rp 27 billion, is part of the Jakabaring Sports Center, Palembang. It has 300 seats for spectators and 40 lanes.
In Jakarta, Sinar Mas Land helped with the renovation of 16 sports buildings which will be used as supporting facilities for athletes to train and exercise.
Sinar Mas Land also built a BMX circuit in Pulomas and renovated the baseball field in Rawamangun, East Jakarta. A social media campaign and other campaigns, including the signing of the Sejuta Dukungan (A Million Supporters) petition, also involves the big family of Sinar Mas.
"We want the Asian Games to be more than a sporting event where thousands of athletes from all over Asia compete; it is a moment for Indonesia to [generate] positive energy, nurture national and community spirits and share happiness, before, during and long after the Games are over," he remarked. Sulis added, jokingly: "To bring the enthusiasm for the Games to fever pitch, we at Sinar Mas have even borrowed the Games' motto: Energy of Asia. This is then our contribution: Energy of Asia Pulp & Paper."
