he Immigration Directorate General has implemented the online Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM) in 67 Indonesia’s representatives across the globe.
The online system enables immigration officers at airports, immigration offices and attaché offices to have secure, real-time access to immigration data.
Immigration Director General Ronny F. Sompie announced the online system during a coordination meeting on the immigration functions of Indonesia’s attaché offices in Seoul from Sept. 16 to 21.
“SIMKIM has been installed in 67 Indonesia attaché offices and 58 are operating the system,” Ronny said.
The use of SIMKIM in attaché offices is an immigration surveillance measure for foreign nationals who submit visa applications to visit Indonesia. The online system also supports the passport application service of Indonesians living abroad.
The meeting was attended by 22 immigration attachés and technical staff, who received directions from the officials of the Foreign Ministry, National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) and the Law and Human Rights Ministry.
The meeting touched on some of the key immigration issues, such as protection measures to save Indonesians from falling prey to human trafficking networks.
The Immigration Directorate General implemented protection measures by withholding the issuance of passports at immigration offices and delaying the departure of non-procedural Indonesian workers at immigration checkpoints in airports and seaports.
“As of Sept. 14, 2018, we have withheld the issuance of passports for 4,724 suspected non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers, “Ronny said.
He also added that the directorate general had delayed the departure of 362 non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers at immigration checkpoints.
