fter one full year of working from home, it has been made quite clear that there is a distinction between “house” and “home”.
While a house is the building itself, a home is what you make of it. If you feel right at home, perhaps spending most of your time there might not be such a bad thing.
As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, it is quite common to see major redecorations and renovations to spruce things up, even during the pandemic. Moreover, the situation even influenced some trends in interior design as of late.
To find out more, The Jakarta Post recently held a webinar supported by paint producer Mowilex to discuss the latest trends and tips on home redecorating, which as it turns out, can change the vibe of a room with just a new coat of paint.
Mowilex Indonesia Chief Marketing Officer Anna Yesito Wibowo explained that during the past year, neutral tones and off-white were among their best-sellers for the ability to make a room feel larger, fresher, and cleaner.
As for bright hues like green, red, and blue, she noted that consumers frequently picked these colors to make a room feel more glamorous or cheerful.
“Mowilex’s bright colors are known by our consumers to be long-lasting and not prone to fading. The colors I’ve mentioned, alog with geranium red, are often used in areas exposed to sunlight or as accent colors to avoid monotone walls,” Anna explained, adding that the shades were also popular among mural artists for their brightness and durability.
As many Indonesians have gradually moved activities to the comfort of their homes, consumer behavior has shifted along with that trend. Research done by Mowilex shows that consumers are especially concerned about hygiene, as they conduct more activities at home.
“We conducted further research, and from there we developed a paint that is situationally appropriate for the pandemic with the addition of antibacterial components. [...] We have incorporated the Silver Ion AG+ technology, which is 99.9 percent effective against bacteria, viruses, mold, and parasites.”
The Silver Ion AG+ works by destroying the DNA of bacteria and viruses as soon as it is applied to the wall, continuing by halting the metabolism, before eradicating the viruses and bacteria completely.
The paints are available in three distinct looks: satin, gloss, and matte, the latter of which is available through the Cendana line of products.
Since its founding in 1970, Mowilex is also one of the first manufacturers to use water-based paints, as well as the first in Indonesia to receive carbon neutrality certification.
