Maritime logistics integrator Meratus enhances inter-island connectivity

C

omposed of many islands and a long coastline, Indonesia is witnessing economic inequality, a tough challenge that the government continues to address.

To ensure the equal distribution of goods and commodities, as well as to realize the potential of natural resources in many different islands, good maritime logistics and inter-island connectivity are prerequisites.

Meratus, Indonesia's leading maritime logistics integrator, has demonstrated its strong commitment to supporting Indonesian logistics and inter-island connectivity by initiating the Archipelago Connectivity Project and other logistics solutions.

This project aims to connect the Indonesian archipelago with integrated logistics services, in line with the company’s vision of “Delivering The Future of Integrated Maritime Logistics.”

Meratus intends to develop the Container Logistics Center (CLC) area and logistics warehouses in nine major Indonesian cities by 2022.

The CLC, which adopts a new customer-centric concept, was introduced when Meratus celebrated its 64th anniversary in 2021.

Following the completion of the CLC in Surabaya, East Java, in October 2021, the company will build similar facility in Jakarta, Semarang in Central Java, Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Belawan in North Sumatra, Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Bitung in North Sulawesi and Kendari in Central Sulawesi.

"The expansion of the CLC network and logistics warehouses in various cities in Indonesia can facilitate logistics and supply chain flows while also improving the local economy," said Yudy Winarsyah, Meratus CLC General Manager.

The Meratus CLC offers one-stop service solutions varying from standard container management to loading and unloading activities, storage, warehousing, import-export rework, flexible solutions and container transformation. The facility is designed to meet market needs while strengthening Indonesia's logistic ecosystem.

"This Container Logistics Center will also be supported by logistics distribution services by land, sea and air to improve logistics connectivity in the Indonesian archipelago, as well as go global," said Meratus CEO Farid Belbouab.

Farid said that in the future, Meratus would continue to expand connectivity to cover most areas in Indonesia.

Meratus Group has allocated an investment of more than US$20 million to develop logistics infrastructure to launch Meratus CLC in Jakarta, Kupang, Kendari, Bitung and Makassar.

With the expansion of the logistics solution network in various regions in Indonesia through the Archipelago Connectivity Project, Meratus can significantly contribute to Indonesia.

As part of Meratus’ vision to reinforce its logistics ecosystem in Indonesia, Meratus Group has decided to combine its two corporate logistic business units, MB LOG and MIF, to form MG LOG (M Global Logistics) as the largest domestic logistics organization in Indonesia.

This new organization is the outcome of 30 years’ development of logistics product offerings, established with the objective to serve Meratus customers with supply chain solutions.

M Global Logistics is the new brand powering Meratus as a mega logistics player in Indonesia with full pledged services from sea freight, FCL, LCL, to air freight, reefer, contract logistics and transport solutions.

The merge of the Meratus logistic business units into one solid arm will enhance the integration of logistic to shipping offerings.

"This unification is another step toward strengthening Meratus Group's logistics business. Our expertise in the domain of logistics, project cargo, air freight or cold chain illustrates our commitment to providing comprehensive services, powered by the latest digitized solutions and strong human capital," said Farid.

Cost-efficient supply chain solution

M Global Logistics offers value-added services such as warehouse facilities, customs clearance, modular storage solutions, project cargo and cold chain that will facilitate trade exchange for Indonesian companies in need of visibility and cost-efficient supply chain solutions.

"This is a significant milestone for us and it confirms both our vision and mission as we strive to serve our customers. This is another illustration of our people and group expertise to provide customer-centric solutions, thanks to our wide range of services and strong logistics ecosystem. M Global Logistics comes right at a time to respond to the needs of an increasingly dynamic market and supports Indonesia's economic growth," said Budi Pranoto, chief commercial officer M Global Logistics.

M Global Logistics operates a network of more than 30 branches across Indonesia, fueled by more than 500 professionals, 15 container logistic centers and 300 trucks.

While continually expanding inter-island connectivity networks, Meratus also cares about other concerns, including the currently pressing issue of climate change. To demonstrate its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially with respect to climate action, Meratus has developed a green project under which it limits the sulfur content in fuel oil on board ships by using low-sulfur fuel oil (LSFO) in Meratus’ international vessels to mitigate marine pollution.

Customers deserve to choose a maritime logistics provider based on their preference, but for those looking for one with expanded inter-island connectivity networks, Meratus maritime logistics integrator is the right choice.
