he Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 95,242 foreign tourist visits to the city of Batam in August 2023. This represents a 0.19 percent increase from the 95,063 visits in July 2023.
The number of foreign tourist visits to Batam increased by 58.08 percent. The increase in foreign tourist visits in August 2023 occurred at all entry points in the city, including the Batam Center Ferry Port, Nongsa Pura Port, Harbourbay Ferry Port, the International Sekupang Port and Hangnadim International Airport.
August 2023 saw a slight increase from the previous month. Cumulatively, from January to August 2023, the total number of foreign tourist visits to Batam was 757,639. This figure is significantly higher than the same period last year, which recorded 182,439 visitors.
Tourists from Singapore continue to be the most numerous, with 53,719 visits. Singaporean tourists make up 56.40 percent of the total foreign tourist visits to Batam.
Other foreign tourist visits came from Malaysia with 16,485 visits, India with 3,565 visits, China with 2,424 visits, the Philippines with 2,250 visits, the United Kingdom with 778 visits, the United States with 729 visits, Japan with 700 visits, Australia with 676 visits and Germany with 256 visits.
Foreign tourists mainly visit Batam to enjoy culinary experiences, especially fresh and affordable seafood, which Batam is known for. Spa services are also a favorite, especially among Singaporean tourists, and other popular activities include golf, shopping and visiting tourist attractions.
The increase in foreign tourist numbers reflects Batam as a safe and comfortable destination. Good infrastructure and ease of transportation are also factors considered by tourists when visiting Batam.
