A

scarcity of  3-kilogram canisters of subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for household needs has hit Greater Jakarta, affecting residents of Depok and Bogor.

Imran, a resident of Depok, had to stop selling food at his stall as he was unable to find any 3-kg LPG canisters in his area.

“I cannot earn money,” said Imran on Wednesday.

Nursyamsyiah, also a Depok resident, said her family had to rely on an electronic rice cooker to make their daily dishes.

“I’ve been using a rice cooker to cook for the last two days. I don’t know what to do since it is difficult to find the LPG,” she said, as quoted by kompas.com.

Responding to the shortage, stated-owned oil and gas company Pertamina for western Java communication and relations manager Dian Hapsari Firasati said the company had increased the supply of 3-kg LPG canisters in several zones, up to 60 percent of the regular supply.

“Pertamina has been conducting market operations since Monday and is scheduled to continue until Thursday. So far, the market operations have been conducted in Bogor city, Bogor regency and Depok,” Dian said. (roi)
