T Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), in collaboration with Tokopedia (part of GoTo Group), has launched Tokopedia Card, a new credit-card catering to payments for marketplace purchases.
"This collaboration is one of BRI's forms of ongoing support for the government's mission to increase financial inclusion -- by increasing non-cash transactions," said Handayani, BRI’s director of consumer business. She added that the partnership is based on shared values between the two companies and that this is proof that bank institutions can increase digital access to the country by using technology.
Designed for convenience, the card has a feature where users can immediately find various interesting promos, check and manage card transactions via the marketplace application by simply scanning a QR.
It is hoped that the presence of the Tokopedia Card can provide assistance not only for Tokopedia purchases, but also in submitting credit card applications and monitoring the use of the credit card. Users can also do transactions with credit cards at home and abroad throughout the Visa network, both online and offline, at more than 70 million merchant locations worldwide.
"Tokopedia's collaboration with BRI through the Tokopedia Card is our effort to make the shopping experience of Indonesians more practical. Only requiring an ID card, users can apply for a Tokopedia Card easily, quickly and completely online. This is possible because the process utilizes Toko Score's credit scoring service so that users do not need additional documents. Toko Score has also been used by various trusted financial service institutions, including BRI,” said Tokopedia's svp of fintech and payment, Vira Widiyasari.
Vira further explained that the card also allows users to access services such as card activation, transaction details, billing history and even to block cards when necessary. Moreover, card holders can also convert transactions into 0 percent installments for up to 12 months directly from the Tokopedia application as an incentive.
"Visa is very pleased to be able to support the launch of the Tokopedia Card in order to further open access and increase the use of digital payments in Indonesia,” said Riko Abdurrahman, president director of PT Visa Worldwide Indonesia. He continued, “Visa's latest consumer payment attitude study of 1,000 respondents in Indonesia shows that 7 out of 10 consumers have used an app/website for shopping for the first time since the pandemic. The study data also show an increase in consumers using their credit cards to shop, both online and face-to-face using the contactless feature."
Tokopedia card users can also enjoy more benefit such as: free annual fee (if users make three or more purchases per month); welcome bonus in the form of GoPay coins; cashback of up to Rp 1.5 million (US$103.70) every month; and unlimited cashback of 500 GoPay coins for every transaction over Rp 100,000 at all merchants, offline or online, in Indonesia and abroad.
Moreover, users can also enjoy cashback up to 50 percent in the form of a credit balance on restaurants, cafes and/or food and beverage outlets anywhere. The maximum accumulation of cashback is Rp 100,000 per month during the promotion period. Other incentives include a buy 1 get 1 at Hoka-Hoka Bento, a Rp 200,000 discount at Ace Hardware and Informa and a special promotional price at XXI.
BRI has experience as the first bank in Indonesia to issue credit cards in partnership with other digital merchants and in collaboration with the biggest online e-commerce in Indonesia, Tokopedia - which is part of the GoTo group, the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia that includes Gojek, Tokopedia and GoTo Financial - has been recorded to have reached Indonesians in 99 percent of sub-districts in Indonesia with more than 500,000 payment points throughout the country.
BRI and Tokopedia will continue to collaborate and present other innovations to answer the needs of the community, as well as encourage financial literacy and inclusion in Indonesia via the use of technology.
