he government has invited UL Solutions, a United States company specializing in software product certification and testing, to build an electric vehicle (EV) battery testing facility in Indonesia.
Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Wednesday that the ministry had spoken with UL Solutions senior vice president Todd Denison on Monday.
Bahlil noted that the government wanted to ensure that Indonesian EVs met safety and security standards in preparation for growing domestic demand.
“We hope the government can work together with UL Solutions to create an EV ecosystem [in Indonesia],” Bahlil said in the Wednesday statement.
UL Solutions senior vice president Todd Denison said in the same statement that he welcomed the government’s offer and said the company would study the potential to build a battery testing facility in Indonesia.
According to UL Solutions, China is the only country in Asia to have battery testing facility.
