limited-edition Brompton bicycle is up for sale in an auction to fund the first Indonesian mosque in London. The virtual auction commenced on Feb. 27 at 7.30 p.m. WIB and 12.30 p.m. BST in a collaboration between the Human Initiative and the Indonesian Islamic Center (IIC) in London.

The bike is the only unit of its series, sporting the signature of Brompton's CEO Will Butler-Adams. Butler-Adams has also promised to take the winner on a physical tour around the Brompton factory in London. Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Desra Percaya applauded Butler-Adam and Brompton's enthusiasm to participate in the fundraising.

"I met with Will planning to buy one of Brompton's exclusive bicycles to sell in an auction to fund a mosque [for Indonesians in the UK]." Desra recounted. "But he refused the offer. Instead, Will insisted on donating a bike with his signature."

"Will also said that Islam needs to have more representation in the UK and the world," Desra said in a talk show session with the CEO of Brompton.

Will himself agreed and thanked the organizers for reaching out and involving him in the project. "I was happy to help in supporting this event," he said.

Also in attendance with Ambassador Desra Percaya was the general chairman of the Indonesian Council of Mosques and Jusuf Kalla, the 10th and 12th vice president of Indonesia.

"We hope that this mosque will be Islam's representation on the international stage." Eko Kurniawan, the leader of the Indonesian mosque project said in his opening remarks.

The auction continued with lectures from Muslim figureheads and educators, with Jusuf Kalla imparting a piece of crucial advice. "This fundraising is held with good intentions. But we must remember that the main goal isn't obtaining the bike but funding a mosque," he said.

Just moments after kickstarting, the auction amassed an overwhelming number of offers from enthusiastic bidders. Currently, the highest bid is Rp 100 million (US$6,973) and will continue to rise as the auction continues for the next five days.
