AIESEC Indonesia collaborates with IKN to promote sustainability during Youth Speak Forum

his year AIESEC Indonesia once again hosted its annual Youth Speak Forum after a hiatus since 2019. With the theme of Eco-Finance: Discovering Youth-led Green Economy Potential to Make a Positive Impact on Society, the forum took place on March 9, 2024, at Bina Nusantara University.

As one of AIESEC Indonesia’s premier projects, The Youth Speak Forum is an event that offers seminars, workshops, focus group discussions and idea presentations for promising youths to hone their skills in discussing relevant critical issues.

Involving over 300 participants, two government agencies, seven panelists and three judges, the overarching goal of the forum this year was to imbue Indonesian youths with new perspectives regarding the green economy.

Notably present at the forum, specifically the seminar and workshop sessions were Ary Sudijanto, head of the Instrument Standardization Agency, the Environment and Forestry Ministry; Troy Pantouw, special staff for Public Communications of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (IKN); Morgan Oey, influencer; Tizar Shahwirman, group lead of Employer Branding at GoTo Group; Dwi Suci Candraningsih, Corporate Communication senior executive, PT Paragon Technology and Innovation; Jessica Novia, founder of CarbonEthics and Muhammad Rizki Kresnawan, senior project manager of Energy System Climateworks Center.

Following the seminar and workshop activities, all 300 participants, who came from a variety of schools and universities across the Greater Jakarta region, conducted a forum discussing the issue of ecotourism. The three best speakers received the opportunity to present their idea to the three judges, namely, Taufik Hanafi, former secretary of the National Development Planning Ministry/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachman Kurniawan, manager of the Environmental Development Pillar, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) National Secretary and William, PR and Corporate Communication lead of Bibit.id.

Azi Amarul, head of AIESEC Indonesia, stated that the green economy and sustainability was the main focus and commitments for AIESEC Indonesia currently.

"Green economy and sustainability is one of the main focuses and commitments for AIESEC Indonesia as a Youth Leadership Organization, and continues to be determined to facilitate Youth Leaders so they can contribute to the development of a more sustainable world," explained Amarul.

Additionally, the forum was officially supported by a multitude of partners ranging from the government, private sector and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). One key partner of the Youth Speak Forum is the IKN Authority, with special staff for Public Communications/spokesperson for the IKN Authority, Troy Pantouw, commenting during the forum that the new capital city Nusantara was planned to be a smart and green Indonesian city with comprehensive sustainable infrastructure set in place.

He also explained the Nusantara Net-Zero Strategy 2045 that has been mapped out, which is meant to push Nusantara to become a city net-zero emissions by 2045 with a voluntary local review (VLR).

"The Nusantara Capital City is also designed to be in accordance with green economy principles, which prioritize several principles. First of these principles is being in harmony with nature. Basically, more than 65 percent of the area of ​​the Indonesian capital is green space. Second, low carbon emissions. The capital city of the archipelago is designed to be able to use renewable energy to will meet future energy needs as well as 60 percent energy savings for energy conservation in buildings. Third, circular and resilient principles. IKN is designed so that more than 10 percent of the land area is provided to fulfill food production," Pantouw added.

With this forum, AIESEC Indonesia hopes that all 300 young Indonesians will gain more of an understanding of the importance of environmental and economic issues that are present in Indonesia. Aside from that however, AIESEC Indonesia wishes that this event can foster the spirit of leadership, collaboration and critical problem-solving skills.
