Anies said it was too premature to speculate if he would accept a proposal from Prabowo to sit in the next cabinet.
unner-up in the Feb. 14 presidential election, Anies Baswedan, has shrugged off speculation that he was ready to join the incoming administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto and renewed his pledge to continue as an opposition figure campaigning for change.
Anies said it was too premature to speculate if he would accept a proposal from Prabowo to sit in the next cabinet.
The former Jakarta governor said that the 40 million people who voted for him expected that he would bring about change and he would honor that aspiration.
"Let us look after this vanguard of change, let's not waste our time on gossip. It's time to think about unity and come up with a new plan," Anies said in his speech to the event as quoted by tempo.co.
Last week, the General Elections Commission (KPU) officially announced Prabowo, 72, the country's next leader, beating Anies and a third rival Ganjar Pranowo with 58.6 percent of the vote.
Receiving 24.9 percent of the vote, Anies initially refused to concede after the official results were announced and filed a complaint to the Constitutional Court, claiming the state had intervened to help Prabowo win and calling for a re-run.
Anies congratulated Prabowo on his election win after the court issued its decision to uphold the defense minister's win.
