The party has also invited leaders of political parties contesting the Feb. 14 general election as well as all presidential tickets.
he leadership of the Muslim-based Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has extended an invitation to president-elect Prabowo Subianto and vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka to join the party’s Idul Fitri gathering scheduled for Saturday.
The party has also invited leaders of political parties contesting the Feb. 14 general election as well as all presidential tickets.
“If Pak Prabowo comes to the PKS headquarters, we will roll out a red carpet for him as president-elect. We will welcome him,” PKS secretary-general Aboe Bakar Al Habsyi said.
The move came as the leadership of the PKS warmed to the idea of supporting the incoming administration of Prabowo.
Traditional Islamist PKS has been in opposition throughout the 10-year tenure of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration, a nationalist president nominated by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
The PKS backed Prabowo’s presidential bid twice, in 2014 and 2019, before switching to support the candidacy of former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan in this year’s presidential election.
The PKS is expected to join the administration of Prabowo, especially now the NasDem Party and the National Awakening Party (PKB), its coalition partners in this year's presidential election, have pledged support for the president-elect.
