The sequel to blockbuster movie Ayat Ayat Cinta (Verses of Love) hit the big screen on Dec. 21 as one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. The first installment of the franchise reportedly brought in 3.6 million viewers.

Ayat Ayat Cinta 2 follows the love life of Fahri (Fedi Nuril) in Edinburgh, Scotland and, despite the beautiful setting, some netizens have expressed disappointment over the sequel on social media.

Lifestyle blogger Stephany Josephine was among the netizens that shared her two cents online.

On her blog, she said she was disappointed with the plot.

However, she told The Jakarta Post that the cast, cinematography and soundtrack were the production's stronger points.

Her review had been viewed around 50,000 times within six to seven hours after it was first published, she revealed.

“This was a record in 10 years of blogging,” she said.
