Acer unveils new 'thinnest laptop in the world'

Taiwanese hardware company Acer launched "the thinnest laptop in the world" in Las Vegas several days prior to the Consumer Electronics Show 2018, boasting a thickness of only 8.98 millimeters.

aiwanese hardware company Acer launched "the thinnest laptop in the world" in Las Vegas several days prior to the Consumer Electronics Show 2018, boasting a thickness of only 8.98 millimeters. 

Aside from its slim body, the new Swift 7 also comes with Windows 10, seventh-generation Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB PCIe SSD storage, 14-inch display and integrated 4G LTE connectivity, reported The Verge. The latter will allow users to connect wirelessly thanks to the availability of a Nano SIM card slot as well as eSIM technology that enables download and activation of eSIM profiles. 

Other highlighted features of the product are unibody aluminum chassis, a fingerprint reader, Corning Gorilla Glass NBT touchscreen and touchpad, backlit keyboard and up to 10 hours of battery life.

"We're extremely proud to make the world's thinnest laptop even thinner with the new Swift 7," said Jerry Kao, the company's president of IT products business, in a press release on Saturday. "Building on the engineering breakthroughs from the previous generation, the new Swift 7 steps up the game with an even slimmer chassis, powerful performance and always-on 4G LTE connectivity for professionals on the go."

Available in North America in March, the product is said to be priced starting at US$1,699. (kes)
