orried you spend too much time scrolling through Instagram? If you’re not exactly sure how much time you’re spending on the photo-sharing app, Instagram will soon roll out a tool allowing you to see exactly that.

“It’s true […] We’re building tools that will help the IG community know more about the time they spend on Instagram – any time should be positive and intentional [. . .] Understanding how time online impacts people is important, and it’s the responsibility of all companies to be honest about this. We want to be part of the solution. I take that responsibility seriously,” tweeted Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.

TechCrunch reported that first look at the Usage Insights tool showed that users will be able to view a daily tally of minutes spent on the app, as well as set a daily time limit. Once that time limit has been exceeded, users will receive a reminder.

It does not seem as if users will be locked out of the app if the limit has been reached, but Usage can still be a way to self-monitor time spent on Instagram.

This feature comes on the heels of Instagram’s new “You’re all caught up” notice that users receive once they’ve seen all new posts since their last visit.

Usage has not yet been finalized, so it might see some tweaks before its official launch. (sul/wng)
