Ancol's Art Market will be transformed into a source of information about Betawi culture this weekend.
etawi oral literature, Sohibul Hikayat and a talk-show about the history of Kampung Tua (old village) in Jakarta are set to be showcased this weekend as part of the Wall of Frame Betawi series of activities at Ancol’s Art Market, North Jakarta.
On Saturday, June 30, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., visitors are encouraged to find out more about Sohibul Hikayat, meaning the owner of the story, which is said to originate from the Middle East. Brought by Yahya Andi Saputra, cultural observer and part of Lembaga Kebudayaan Betawi (Betawi Culture Institute), the Sohibul Hikayat will narrate about Betawi villages.
Meanwhile, on Sunday July 1, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a talk-show event about the history of Kampung Tua with Candrian Attahiyyat, an archeologist from the University of Indonesia and the expert team of Cagar Budaya DKI Jakarta (Jakarta Cultural Heritage), as the speaker.

Held as part of the Kampung Betawi (Betawi Village) event to celebrate Jakarta’s anniversary every June 22, Wall of Frame Betawi itself began on June 15 and will run until Aug. 17.
Located at the market’s North Art Space (NAS), it also features an exhibition of information and photos on the origins of the 267 subdistricts in Jakarta, eight maps of Batavia as well as Jakarta. The exhibition is based on ancient maps of Batavia as well as Jakarta that were published from 1740 to 2015. It also uses the original spelling and names to give more of an atmosphere of the old times.
“With this event, hopefully people will have more understanding about Betawi art and culture as well as the history of Betawi villages,” said Roni Adi, head of the Wall of Frame Betawi team, in a press release. (wir/mut)
