hile in recent years Paris has been joined by other cities as a major fashion destination, the City of Light remains the gold standard for many.

It is precisely this phenomenon that has drawn numerous aspiring designers from around the world to showcase their designs in the city that gave the world the likes of Dior, Chanel and Givenchy.

Indonesian actor turned fashion designer Tities Sapoetra will present a collection comprising 16 looks at the Fashion Division Paris Fashion Show Spring Summer 2019 on Sept. 28 at Hôtel Le Marois - France Amériques during Paris Fashion Week.

“I’m very excited to do this show. The idea had been thrown around at least three months ago, but I was confirmed for the show a month ago,” Tities said, adding that he had no issues in terms of preparation as his production team had a lot of members.

“Actually, one of the problems we encountered was in finding the colors. If it’s not what I had in mind, we’ll redo the entire thing, so we spent a lot of time doing just that.”

However, Tities also noted there were no fitting sessions for his clothes, as the models who will wear his pieces are all based in Paris, with the notable exception of Paula Verhoeven, a friend of Tities and the sole Indonesian model who will walk in the show.

“We try to avoid body-hugging clothes, so the collection features oversized, loose silhouettes, coincidentally a signature of my brand.”

Titled “Beauty Voyage”, the collection draws inspiration from the beauty of the feminine figure, manifested in floral patterns used as prints in whimsical pastels as well as opulent gold on black.

“From when I first started out in 2015, I’ve often subconsciously used themes surrounding women and beauty, often in soft colors. One of the prints is very girly with illustrations and pastel colors, while another one is a floral design in gold symbolizing the golden opportunity for me to showcase my work in Paris,” Tities explained, adding that the black background came from his cosmetics partner Make Over.

While the full collection will make its premiere later in the gilded halls of Paris, Tities gave guests and members of the media a preview consisting of three looks.

A structured high-low dress features playful, cartoonish prints on the front, with a solid lilac-colored panel on the back.

A touch of menswear is present in the form of a tailored suit jacket in black and gold floral, made feminine by being layered over a pleated knee-length printed skirt.

A shortened coat with oversized lapels in white and beige floral provide a touch of classic Parisian glamour, elevating the black and gold printed dress to one that can be worn day or night.

The organizer of the show, the Fashion Division, is an Indonesian startup that specializes in fashion for fashion students. Five young designers will showcase their works at the show, which will be closed with Tities’ collection.

While in Paris to organize the show, Fashion Division Paris CEO Khaled Khoualfi said in a video statement that Tities was chosen to be the star designer because of his “creative and authentic” designs.

“We fully believe that he has the full potential to enter the French and European markets.”

Khoualfi said the show would be preceded by a press conference attended by international media and fashion bloggers, while a cocktail after-party would allow for networking with industry figures.

Tities is hopeful the show will give him a foothold in the international fashion scene, as he will meet with buyers and owners of major department stores.

“It’s actually what I’m aiming for, as I want to introduce Indonesian fashion that could stand on the same level as other brands. I want to show that Asia, especially Indonesia, has a lot of excellent designers.”
