T

he Tolerance Film Festival returns this year over four days from Nov. 15 to 18 at the French cultural center, Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI), in Central Jakarta.

Among the line-up of films for public screening are Dancing Arabs, Nina Bobo untuk Bobby, The 90-Minute War and Hate Spaces. Most of the films revolve around issues of identity and related conflicts. The animation-documentary Nina Bobo untuk Bobby (2017), for example, is based on the true story of a Javanese family in the Netherlands who hid a Jewish baby for four years during the Holocaust.

Meanwhile, The 90-Minute War (2016), takes a humorous look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a soccer game.

The annual festival will also present a discussion, "Toleran Terhadap Intoleransi" (tolerance toward intolerance), on the closing day on Sunday, Nov. 18, as well as a film review competition that carries a Rp 500,000 (US$33) cash prize.

Initiated in 2016 by journalist Monique Rijkers, the Tolerance Film Festival commemorates the International Day of Tolerance, which falls on Nov. 16. (wir/mut)
