he presence of Indonesiana Funds serves as its own motivation for the organizers of the Purbalingga Film Festival. They become more enthusiastic about carrying out the annual agenda to stimulate the creativity of local filmmakers. The allocation of Indonesiana Funds of Rp 2.5 billion per year is managed by them to the best of their ability.
The Director of the Purbalingga Film Festival, Nangki Nirmanto, explained that they began receiving Indonesiana Funds last year in 2022. They were included in the evaluation category by the selection committee. "So we were directly appointed by the Selection Committee. It wasn't us submitting or registering," he told reporters on Thursday (7/3).
Nangki said that the allocation of Indonesiana Funds is an appreciation or recognition of their consistency, especially in regularly organizing the Purbalingga Film Festival since 2007. He said that the Indonesiana Funds they receive fall into the category of institutional strengthening.
"We're really happy with this funding," he said. Through this budget, they carry out a series of festivals with various high-quality activities. Among them is the production of films by Purbalingga and surrounding area filmmakers.
These filmmakers are students from junior high and high schools. Nangki said that every year, the Purbalingga Film Festival can produce up to 20-30 films from local filmmakers. A specific team is formed to accompany film production, from idea generation, production, to post-production.
These locally-themed films are then screened through outdoor movie screenings. Before the existence of Indonesiana Funds, they could usually only have up to 16 outdoor screening points. "After receiving Indonesiana Funds, we can now have outdoor screenings at up to 30 points," he said. Then, the film production process can involve up to 20 schools.
Nangki said they are also committed to continuing regeneration efforts by creating non-formal classes for the local film community. This ensures that filmmakers in the Purbalingga area and its surroundings continue to emerge in the future. Nangki hopes that the Indonesiana Funds program, sourced from the Permanent Education Fund, will continue to be maintained.
The Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, explained that Indonesiana Funds utilize the management results of the Permanent Cultural Fund. The main objective of this program is to place the public and cultural practitioners as initiators and drivers of cultural advancement. Over time, Indonesiana Funds contribute to building a strong foundation for cultural growth and advancement in Indonesia.
Hilmar said that Indonesiana funding is also to strengthen the cultural ecosystem in Indonesia. A concrete example is various community-based cultural activities, including artistic production, cultural research, and participation in global cultural forums. "These activities are driving forces for Indonesian artists and cultural experts to innovate more actively and enhance their creativity," he said. (*)
