etflix has issued a warning after a challenge inspired by its film “Bird Box” starring Sandra Bullock made rounds online.

Netizens taking on the “Bird Box Challenge” wore blindfolds just like the characters of the film as they do everyday tasks.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” Netflix said in a tweet on Thursday.

“We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes,” the streaming giant added.

In the film, Malorie (Bullock) and her children Boy and Girl are blindfolded as they navigate through a river and a forest to protect themselves against supernatural entities that if seen, cause people to kill themselves.

According to Netflix, “Bird Box” became the most-watched film within the first seven days of its release in the streaming platform.

“Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched Bird Box — best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film!” the streaming giant said in a tweet last Dec. 29.

The post-apocalyptic drama thriller film directed by Susanne Bier based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Josh Malerman streamed on Netflix worldwide on December 21, 2018.
