Rachel Vennya, an Instagrammer with 3.7 million followers, launched an art exhibition in Jakarta to raise awareness about mental health.
ne in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO). Yet the topic of mental health is rarely discussed in many countries, including Indonesia.
The stigma surrounding mental health has pressured some people into hiding their struggles to avoid judgment.
In an attempt to reduce the stigma and raise awareness on mental health, Rachel Vennya, an Instagrammer with 3.7 million followers, launched an eye-catching exhibition titled Raven Is Odd at Kuningan City shopping mall in South Jakarta, which will be available until Sept. 29.
The name is a combination of Rachel’s first and last name to form the portmanteau “Raven”.
"Mental health is something that needs to be further explored and is something that cannot be underestimated,” Rachel said. “Mental health affects how people perform, socialize and go on with their daily lives.”
"I chose this theme because I want to educate myself and others. Through this event, I've gained a better understanding [of mental health] and hopefully, everyone will too.”
Stepping into the exhibition room feels like stepping into an Alice in Wonderland-inspired fantasy world.
