Google Indonesia is highlighting the Lorentz National Park in Papua through its so-called doodle on Wednesday.
Created by San Francisco-based artist Alyssa Winans, the latest doodle shows a glimpse of the park’s natural wonders, including the rare Pesquet’s parrot.
The national park is named after Dutch explorer Hendrikus Albertus Lorentz, who visited the area in 1909.
According to the Google Doodles page, the park is the largest protected area in Southeast Asia, covering more than 24,000 square kilometers and featuring several ecosystems, including grasslands, swamps, ocean beaches, rainforests and alpine mountains topped with rare tropical glaciers.
The park's most famous mountain, Puncak Jaya, is the tallest peak in Southeast Asia.

Besides a nature sanctuary for the Pesquet’s parrot, the park is home to an abundance of other animals, including tree kangaroos, tigers and an egg-laying mammal called echidna.
At least seven indigenous human ethnic groups live within the national park, practicing their traditions.
The massive area was established as a national park by the government in 1997 under a forestry ministry decree and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. (jes/kes)
