oko Anwar's Perempuan Tanah Jahanam (Impetigore) will reportedly be streamed by American entertainment company AMC Networks' subscription video-on-demand service Shudder, which had acquired the rights in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

According to Variety, the acquisition of the horror thriller was a second deal for Joko and Shudder, as the latter previously had also bought the rights to the filmmaker's Pengabdi Setan (Satan's Slaves), which ended up becoming "one of the network's biggest hits".

Shudder general manager Craig Engler was quoted praising Joko as "a master of modern horror" and described Pengabdi Setan as "one of the most loved and scariest movies" on the platform.

Perempuan Tanah Jahanam, applauded by Engler as "scary, visceral and darkly sinister", is scheduled for streaming starting July 23.

Shudder entertains its viewers by presenting horror, thriller and supernatural fiction titles.

Internationally debuted at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Perempuan Tanah Jahanam follows an out-of-luck woman who decides to return to her secluded hometown in hopes of searching for her family and getting her inheritance. But what awaits her are petrifying secrets and a mysterious curse only she can lift.

This deal marks another global recognition for Joko, whose Indonesian superhero film Gundala has been acquired by US-based distribution label Well Go USA Entertainment and is slated for release in the US on July 28. (kes)
