Ayu helps promote tourism pageant

JAKARTA: Actress Ayu Azhari, who starred in Telegram (2001), Without Mercy (1995) and Java Burn (1989), is now helping promote the 2008 Indonesian Tourism Pageant.

"I fully support this kind of tourism pageant," Ayu, who is married to the vocalist of American rock band White Lion, Mike Tramp, was quoted as saying by Antara.

Ayu said she believed the pageant would contribute greatly to the tourism industry, which, she added, had not yet been fully developed.

"Many countries, especially those rich in cultural traditions, depend on tourism. Our country is, of course, rich in traditions ... it is too bad if we cannot use them to boost our tourism industry," she said.

The pageant, which is to be held by Yayasan El John and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will be held in Jakarta on July 12. JP

We will be posted to Jakarta for 6 months from 1 August though here for a month in May and looking for local(Jakarta) tour companies and cultural events. Hopefully, to learn about them BEFORE we read about them in the Jakarta Post! Help! Anyone.
