State Intelligence Agency chief Syamsir Siregar has reported Reform Star Party (PBR) lawmaker Ade Daud Nasution to the House of Representatives' disciplinary council for alleged defamation
State Intelligence Agency chief Syamsir Siregar has reported Reform Star Party (PBR) lawmaker Ade Daud Nasution to the House of Representatives' disciplinary council for alleged defamation.
Syamsir's lawyer, Zaenal Ma'arif, said the lawmaker had spread lies about his client by saying Syamsir had backed tycoon Sjamsul Nursalim, one of the major debtors in the Bank Indonesia liquidity support (BLBI) case.
"His (Ade's) remarks are completely slanderous. They have harmed our client's reputation and distressed his family," Zaenal said after meeting with council members.
Zaenal submitted as supporting evidence a copy of an article titled The good smell of Liem Tjoen Ho coffee, published in the 12-18 May 2008 edition of Forum weekly magazine.
In the article, Ade is reported to have said Syamsir was one of the high-ranking officials who backed up fugitive Sjamsul Nursalim.
According to the article, Ade also said Syamsir had been president commissioner of PT Japfaa Comfeed, an animal feed producer that Ade said was linked to Sjamsul.
"In fact, our client has never helped Sjamsul or his companies. We urge the council to investigate and take action against Ade Daud," Zaenal said.
The case has also been reported to the Jakarta Police.
Zaenal was formerly House deputy speaker representing the PBR faction. He was dismissed in January following an internal party conflict.
Ade has insisted his statements were truthful.
"I have the evidence. You can simply use Google to find Syamsir's name under the list of PT Japfaa's commissioners," he said.
The company's 2003 financial report names Syamsir Siregar as the president commissioner.
Disciplinary council deputy chairman Gayus Lumbuun said the report would be processed and Ade informed within 14 days.
On the same day, the council also received a report from a state official accusing Golkar lawmaker Serta Ginting of assaulting him. (alf)
