Dancers perform during the opening of the 30th Balinese Art Festival in Denpasar, Bali (photo above) on Saturday which was opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The president praised the festival, calling it a serious collective effort by the local administration and its people to promote various kinds of cultural activities.
"We hope that the world is watching this festival so they will know that Bali is still one of the best islands in the world," he said.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, Governor I Dewa Beratha and several local officials also attended the ceremony.
Organized by the local administration in cooperation with several artists' organizations, the annual event is being held from June 14 to July 12.
The monthlong event will feature traditional dance and drama, discussions and exhibitions.
Artist delegations from 22 countries like South Korea, the United States, Britain and India are also participating in the event.
