BALIKPAPAN, E
ALIKPAPAN, E. Kalimantan: Local authorities have found salted fish contained formaldehyde in several traditional markets in Balikpapan.
"In our inspection last week, we found formaldehyde in salted fish sold in traditional markets," head of Samarinda office of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency, Dyah Muryani, said Tuesday.
She said her agency had yet to take action against the traders selling formaldehyde-laced salted fish, instead reminding traders of the danger of the chemicals, which can cause cancer.
She said the inspection was conducted in four major traditional markets in Balikpapan: Pandansari, Klandasan, Pasarbaru and Sepinggan.--JP
