Forum: Bali Airport

I

t took 1 hour and 45 minutes waiting in line at Bali Airport to get our passports stamped. Why? Five planes pulled in after our's, and the airport was packed. We still had our winter clothes on, it was humid. We couldn't even get water to drink.

Every person we spoke to in Bali said they were disgusted. Lots of people had young children.

We wont be rushing back to Bali if we know we will be standing in the airport for 2 hours, without water.

Milk products from China

Indonesia's Food and drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) claims to have tested various brands of biscuits and chocolates containing milk products from China and promptly declared that Oreo Wafers and M&M chocolates contained melamine as a result of using tainted milk from China.

The producers of both products have disputed BPOM's test result, which once again shows the lack of transparency in Indonesian government departments.

The head of BPOM and/or the health minister should have called the directors of the companies concerned and presented to them the facts according to BPOM -- in this case the results of sampling and testing.

Since Indonesia is heavily reliant on imported milk (and various other products) one wonders why BPOM never tested any of the various brands of ice creams. Ice creams are made from milk and Indonesia imports a lot of milk powder from China.

I would like BPOM to immediately check all the brands of ice cream for melamine and announce the results in a fair and open manner. It will be better if the sampling and testing is done by an independent agency to avoid insinuations of unfairness later.

Different is *beautiful' -- Sept. 29 p. 20

It is a good example that a couple can live in harmony with different religions. We should place love above everything, our love is not just expressed to our own family but to all of God's creatures on earth. It is like the Balinese belief "Try hita karana". It is about 3 principals for harmony in life. First, life in harmony with God. Second life in harmony with human beings, regardless of their social status, religion and other differences. Third, life in harmony with the environment. If all human beings were full of love and tolerance, then life in the world would be harmonious and peaceful.

The best news for Idul Fitri! So it is good to read that fanaticism is not above love and that we can actually live in harmony with different religions, after all, isn't there only one God? We claim to be monotheist: Muslim, Christian and Jewish. But even between us we are not able to settle our minimum differences.

All religions teach us to respect and love each other.

Let's become good Muslims, good Christians, good Jews, Buddhists, Hindus or whatever.

But above all, let's be good to each other and not use God as an excuse to divide mankind. Let's make sure that in the name of God we remain united.

Congratulation Mbak Nia dan Mas Ari, you're just the best!

Animal abuse -- Sept. 24, p.7

In today's material, materialistic world many abuses exist. What of body abuse just because it is our body and the bodies of our near ones? And what about child abuse? -- just because they are children, they can't protest openly. We hear of so many cases of kids running away from parents, so many teen suicides and kidnappings.

So many orphanages and old age homes are springing up. Why, why so many why's pop up in my mind. I am no sage, reformer or revolutionary but a simple human with a kind and loving heart, analyzing things -- feeling pity and sharing love.

"Animal Abuse", made me pause for a while and share my emotions with my fellow readers whom I request to have and follow human qualities and tendencies like right and honest living and more importantly love and non-violence, and live and let live in peace.

Bali bombers -- Oct. 3, p. 2

It doesn't surprise me at all the Bali bombers have shown no remorse for their actions.

They live in a world where free-thinking and responsibility for one's actions are feared. It is a very narrow and cold world.

These people use labels like 'infidel' to justify their cowardice and the brutal killing of innocent men, women and children. Their skins are so thin they lash out like children when they see something that upsets their very limited view of the world, just like the morons who created the riot at the Monas Tower.

It's curious to me that, if these mongrels are so eager to become martyrs, why have they exhausted every avenue of appeal to stop the executions?

Could it be they are cowards after all?

Why does the Indonesian media -- including the Jakarta Post -- publish photographs and videos of these convicted criminals holding court with the paparazzi like rockstars? Would the Post and local TV stations extend similar courtesies to convicted robbers, rapists or sex offenders?

Ignore them until sentence is carried out.

The mail from Nancy Priston -- Oct. 3, p.7

I've been using this provider for more than 1 year, and unfortunately the yearly contract has just been renewed and paid for.

Firstly, the disappearance of the ELP without any prior information, then, no reception during rain and strong wind, and now I have the programs disappearing on a daily basis, at 8:50 PM, 9:30 PM and 10:30 PM respectively, since Oct 1. and all the contact lines to Astro are always busy. Then they call it the Care Center.

I am totally dissatisfied with this kind of service and I believe I am not the only one. Is there any hope for firm action against such non-professional service?
