Flood victims given free health checks

JAKARTA: The city administration has provided free health treatment for flood victims at shelters and referral hospitals.

"The free treatment for flood victims will be available at least until February," Hakim Siregar, head of the Central Jakarta health office, said as quoted by Kompas.com on Tuesday.

Heavy rain over the previous two weeks caused flooding in some parts of the capital, forcing residents to leave their houses.

Residents in refuge shelters or remaining at their flooded homes are prone to dengue fever, leptospirosis, diarrhea and other diseases related to poor sanitation.

Jakarta Health Agency is cooperating with several hospitals to provide free health treatment, namely the Tarakan Hospital in Central Jakarta, Koja in North Jakarta, Pasar Rebo in East Jakarta, Cengkareng Hospital in West Jakarta and Fatmawati Hospital in South Jakarta. -- JP
