Electric pursues league dream

Women's team Electric PLN is looking to improve on finishing as league runner up last year when Proliga Indoor Volleyball National Championship league enters its third leg of competition in Jakarta on Friday.

The Jakarta-based team will face Surabaya Bank Jatim, which won the league last year.

"We look forward to the game. We are optimistic we will win although we'll be fighting defending champion Bank Jatim on Saturday," team manager Hadi Sanyoto told the media Thursday.

Hadi said the team would build on its successful run last year, and hopefully go one step further.

Electric defeated Jakarta Popsivo Polwan in its first match in Bandung.

Team Captain Yulianingsih said he was convinced the team would carry their winning form over to Saturday's game.

"Bank Jatim may have strong individuals in their lineup, but we are not easily intimidated. I believe volleyball is all about good teamwork, and we are already nurturing it," she said.

Jakarta Electric will field three foreign players - Jin Bing Kun and Lin Hai Rong of China and Surasawadee Boonyuen of Thailand.

Bank Jatim will have to bounce back quickly for their match against Electric, which is just a day after their match against current women's league leaders Jakarta BNI Taplus on Friday.

Jakarta BNI has won all three of its opening matches. New team Palembang Bank Sumsel is top of the men's league.

Jakarta Sananta and Bantul Yuso Tomkins face off in the first men's match Friday at the Basketball Hall in Gelora Bung Karno sports complex.

The Jakarta series runs until Sunday.
