ith the legislative elections only nine days away, problems are still being found with final voter lists (DPT) in Central Java, East Java and Riau provinces.

In Banyumas, Central Java, local Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) member Edy Romadhon said there were 6,854 "troubled" names out of around 1.2 million eligible voters registered on the regency's DPT.

About 4,000 of those were found to be already deceased, while about 1,000 names were registered twice.

More than 500 were fictitious, nearly 600 had moved away, and around 300 had no citizen registration numbers (NIK).

Others were listed with more than one NIK, while others were underage or were active military or police personnel. Five voters used initials in their names and two voters were found to be mentally ill, Edy said.

"This is a recap of reports from the entire Panwaslu, from district to subdistrict level. We've followed up on these findings, and have recommended the Banyumas elections commission *KPUD* remove the troubled names from the list," Edy told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

He also said his team had asked the KPUD to ensure the validity of voter data and to take preventive measures to avoid an excess of ballots being filed.

KPUD head Aan Rohaini said the commission had sent letters to local district and subdistrict elections commissions where the problems were found, and that the letters called for the removal of the problem names from the voter lists.

Aan also said that subdistrict election commissions had been told to report voter list validation they had conducted, and to place the reports at polling stations on election day on April 9.

In Pekanbaru, the local Panwaslu found a number of problematic voter lists, including one where 50 active military officers had been included.

Military and police personnel are not allowed to vote.

Pekanbaru Panwaslu head Ali Junaidi said the military officers were found to have been registered in the DPT for Marpoyan Damai district, where an Air Force base was located.

"They were still active military officers when Panwaslu officers checked them," Ali said.

He added the inclusion of the officers was a violation of the 2008 Law on Legislative Elections.

"The Panwaslu will follow up on this administrative violation. We will immediately ask the Pekanbaru KPUD to fix the voter lists," Ali said.

He added the Pekanbaru Panwaslu had also found names that appeared to be those of dead people, as well as double-registered voters and voters under the age of 17.

He said such "administrative violations" were found evenly across subdistricts in Pekanbaru.

Riau KPUD member Makmur Hendrik said the commission would immediately fix the troubled lists so as to ensure the legitimacy of the upcoming election results.
