JAKARTA: West Jakarta municipality's efforts to tidy up the Old Town area to transform it into a well-managed tourist destination hit a snag as the administration failed to find the owners of many old buildings.

West Jakarta Mayor Djoko Ramadhan said his administration was currently painting many old buildings in the area.

"As we failed to find the owners, we will ask for help from West Jakarta chapter of the National Land Body *BPN* to reach them," Djoko told beritajakarta.com Wednesday.

Djoko added the program to tidy the area would involve the owners.

"That's why we tried to contact them. We will paint the buildings belong the government, but we will leave the owners to paint their own buildings."

An official in charge of the program, Candrian Attahiyat, said the area has 284 heritage buildings of which 29 are owned by the government, while 255 belong to private companies and individuals. - JP
