ADANG: A network of Indonesian heritage cities will convene for a two-day congress on Friday in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra.

Sawahlunto Mayor Amran Nur said the event would be attended by 30 mayors of member cities grouped under the Indonesian Heritage Cities Network (JKPI), 16 other city representatives as observers, along with historical building lovers and heritage experts.

"The congress will endorse the statute and standing orders for the JKPI, elect its executive board for the 2009-2012 period, and plan a draft agenda," Amran, also the JKPI head, said.

The national congress, at the Cultural Building in Sawahlunto, will feature a talk by chief minister, Dr. Muhammad Ali from Malaysia, on his experience of managing a heritage city, Amran said, and there will be a photograph exhibition and art performances.
