AKARTA: Although the team put in a lackluster performance overall, Anjas Novita had something to celebrate at the Asian Team Chess Championship, which concluded its seven-round competition Monday in Kolkata, India.
Anjas recorded four wins, two draws and a loss to pick up five points — enough to earn him his second International Master (IM) norm, according to a press release.
The IM norm brings Anjas a step closer to attaining the full IM title. All he needs now is a third norm.
The Indonesian men’s team, which also included Tirta Chandra Purnama, Farid Firman Syah, Kaisar Jenius Hakiki and Susanto Megaranto, beat Yemen in the final round, but the 3.5-0.5 win failed to lift them from fourth place in the final standings.
India A topped the standings, followed by Vietnam and Iran.
Vietnam won the women’s section with two Indian teams trailing behind, followed by Iran.
Indonesia, which fielded Baiq Vina Lestari, Dewi A.A. Citra, Irene Kharisma Sukandar and Chelsie Monica Sihite, could only finish seventh behind Singapore and Bangladesh.
