ILACAP, Central Java: Prosecutors at the Cilacap District Court demanded a nine-year imprisonment for Cilacap Regent Probo Yulastoro, who is on trial for alleged corruption Wednesday.

Probo was also required to pay Rp 200 million (US$21,505) fine and return the embezzled funds to the government.

The regent was named a suspect by the Central Java Prosecutor office five months ago for allegedly embezzling Rp 20 billion of the regency budget from 2004-2008.

Prosecutor Gatot Sembodo said that based on testimonies from the witnesses, Probo was guilty of the crime.

"If the defendant does not pay the fine and return the money a month after the verdict is handed down, his assets will be confiscated and auctioned."
