Letter: Oil palm plantation

I applaud the Indonesian government for making this decision (Govt drops designating plantations as forests, (the Post, April 14).

Special thanks to all those hard working NGOs and environmental groups that are trying to make a difference.

I am still skeptical that much will change in regards to Indonesia’s atrocious and appalling environmental record with the destruction of its rainforest, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

There’s so much more that needs to be done, for example, Tesso Nilo National Park, the world’s richest forest, has encountered more than 30 percent deforestation since it was declared in 2004.
